How to determine the source instance when creating AMI by tag

Post by richpage »

Hi.

I am evaluating AutomatiCloud for the company that I work for. So far I find it to be very powerful and intuitive.

I especially like the Create AMI jobs that will run against any instances that I has a particular tag.

The problem that I'm having is once the AMIs are created, I'm having difficulty determining which instance was the source for the AMI.

I can compare the logs in AutomatiCloud against the creation time of the AMI, but that's not a definitive way to related the instance to the AMI.

If there's a way to determine the source instance, please let me know.

What would be helpful is if there was a macro in the tagging mechanism that would allow me to tag the new AMI with the instance ID or instance name like $INSTID or $INSTNAME. I've found that $VOLID does not work with AMIs, which makes sense since there may be many volumes in one AMI.

Thanks for your help!
